What is R.D.E.C?

RDEC stands for The Research and Development Expenditure Credit. It is a scheme that is designed to encourage larger businesses to invest in pursuing innovative projects commonly referred to as undertaking Research and Development (R&D).  The initiative rewards businesses that engage in R&D projects. Projects should strive to develop new or improved products and services in much the same way as the R&D tax incentive works for SME's

How Does the RDEC Scheme Work?

The R.D.E.C. scheme can be claimed by large businesses (over 500 staff) or small to medium sized businesses who cannot claim the SME R&D Tax Credit Scheme.

Regardless of whether your business is trading in profit or at a loss, a successful claim for R&D work will have the effect of reducing your Corporation Tax liabilities.  If the applied credit triggers a 'loss' then this results in a back-payment from HMRC but with larger businesses, it is most likely to trigger a reduction in your tax bill.  It is also able to be used to settle other tax liabilities should this be necessary.

Identifying a problem within your industry, taking steps to solve the problem thus creating an advance in your industry is key when looking to benefit from the various H.M.R.C. R&D tax Credit initiatives.

Successful Research and Development Tax claims are one of the most effective ways to help strengthen your business's bottom line by reducing it's tax liabilities and also providing a tax rebate subject to status.

HMRC RDEC Tax Credit Rates

Historically the percentage allowance for the incentive has changed.  The rate has changed as follows:

What Our Customers Say:

Ongoing support with complex R&D tax claims.

"Our industry had a 'spot check' by HMRC. Naturally, I was very worried.  I can't thank the team at Hamilton Wood & Co. enough.  They dealt with HMRC directly and  I must say I was impressed with the speed and efficiency that the matter was dealt with. Our claim was approved and we were delighted with the support from Chris at Hamilton Wood throughout.  I couldn't have done it on my own."

Product Lead

Fast and efficient R&D claims process.

"As a business owner, I very rarely get a spare moment.  I was encouraged to talk to Simon at Hamilton Wood and Co. to see if the improvements to our back-office functions and processes might qualify.  After a quick conversation by phone I was assured that whilst not all my activities did qualify, that some of them did and we could move forward on them. I was involved for less than 2hrs over a 12 week period and got a playout in no time at all."
